1st Direct are pleased to announce that we have again shown growth in 2010 with sales considerably increased on 2009. Despite this being a time of recession 1st Direct has achieved growth as a result of offering you, the customer, what you need, when you need it, and at the best possible prices.
We have taken a stronger hold of the market in the UK in 2010 and are now expanding into another warehouse unit – twice the size of any other unit we’ve got. Our stocks are increasing by the day so expect even more product to be available on our overnight service this year.
Unfortunately with the cost of everything going up at the moment such as VAT, fuel, Steel, etc we are expecting some price rises on certain items for 2011 but you can be sure as always that our prices will remain as low as possible, and certainly the cheapest in the market. We are the only swimming pool company in the market to buy in such large quantities that we can pass our savings on to you.
If there’s something you need and you can’t see it on the website – why not call our technical team on 0800 999 5050 and they will do their best to find you a comparible product or even source the product that you are after.
Happy New Year and we look forward to dealing with you in 2011.

1st Direct have been in talks now for the past 8 months with leading one piece pool manufacturer ‘Leisure Pools’ based in Australia about a new range of one piece pools.
After deciding on a new range of pools and having them customised to the UK market our first delivery of pools was packed onto a trailer in Australia this week on its way over to our business park here in Dorset. From here we will be working in partnership with Leisure Pools to distribute the pools into Europe.
We have managed to secure these pools complete with the option of fully automatic safety covers and all at prices you won’t have seen or comes across before.
The new range of one piece pools will be launched very soon once they arrive in the UK along with prices and sizes. A typical pool is anywhere from 30% cheaper than other European equivalents and they are manufactured to standards well over and above.
1st Direct will be offering ‘the complete package’ on these pools with all of the swimming pool equipment that you may need to get you enjoying your new one piece pool in the blink of an eye.

As a free service to the swimming pool industry the Ambassador Leisure Group has launched its latest tool – Pool Adverts.
This is a non-profit idea designed to aid the industry in these hard times to source and sell unwanted products for use in their business. Anybody who’s in the pool industry (and we do check every account!) can go on and complete the very easy, very quick signup form and be selling in minutes. The idea is to sell anything from an old Calorex Heat Pump which is going for spares through to flat bed lorries or even wheelbarrows. As long as its related to our industry you can sell it.
We do not get involved in any of the transactions, there is no cut in it for us. You simply get the sellers contact details and make your own contact to agree a deal.
To signup and view the products on offer please visit www.pooladverts.co.uk
As well as the axes of new School Swimming Pools recently, lot’s of Local Authority Swimming Pools are being faced with financial hardship, trying to find ways of cost cutting. As we all know running and maintining a swimming pool can be expensive with the heating bills, chemicals etc. Some Local Authority Swimming Pools have been reducing their opening hours to try and save money, as there is a lack of funds, and communities are trying to save their local Swimming Pools from closure.
Last year the Labour Government announced free swimming sessions for under 16s and over 60s, which encouraged alot of people to get active, especially in the over 60s. It also gave familys on lower incomes the ability to take their children swimming without worring about the cost. The Government put up the funds for the scheme to go ahead, as it gave people the oppurtunity to get involved with swimming, and help with getting active which would have a good effect on the person’s health.
Again as with the new Coalition Government axeing new School Swimming Pool builds, they have decided to end the free Swimming Sessions as of the 1st July. By withdrawing the free Swimming Sessions, it will have an impact on people’s health as they will no longer have the free entitlement to Swimming Sessions, and they have also put stops to new Swimming Pool developments as there isn’t the funding to go ahead wth them. It is estimated that around 160 Swimming Pools face closure over the next year as there isn’t enough funding available to keep them open.
It has come out recently that up to 30 new school swimming pool projects, costing over £14 million, will now not go ahead. Under the new government coalition suspending projects the old Labour government had given the go ahead for. Swimming Pool projects included in the axe that were due to go ahead are in Bristol and Basingstoke.

Latham International, one of the worlds leading manufacturers of swimming pool panels, and one that we’ve used for years have decided to file for bankruptcy protection in United States.
Latham International, controlled by Pool Corp (SCP) says that it has seen a decline in sales of 75% from 2005 and simply could not continue to survive in this troubled economic time.
With current debts of around $148,000,000 this will no doubt have an impact on Pool Corp who control the company alongside Brockway Moran & Partners Inc.
“Commencing in 2007 and continuing today, the housing bust and deteriorating economic climate resulted in declining industry sales,” Latham International president and Chief Executive Officer Mark Laven said in a declaration filed with the bankruptcy court. “The continued downward spiral of consumer sentiment due to the state of the economy has contributed to the declining sales experienced industrywide.”
According to the filing, Latham were due to run out of cash in February.
